Jon Roberts became Chief Technology Officer at ITN in 2025, following his tenure as Director of Technology, Production and Innovation since 2021. A member of ITN’s senior leadership team, Jon has led a sweeping digital transformation of ITN’s newsrooms—transitioning the organisation to an IP-defined infrastructure, implementing a class-leading News Production System, and delivering software-defined digital production facilities across ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. These achievements helped ITN secure Broadcast’s prestigious Tech Team of the Year award in 2023.
In 2025, Jon led the launch of ITN’s Data & AI Academy in partnership with Multiverse, empowering staff to harness AI and data in everyday workflows. He continues to champion innovation and collaboration across the industry, including co-leading the IBC Accelerator Project of the Year 2024, Evolution of the Control Room, reimagining real-time newsroom operations. In 2025, a second phase of the project developed AI Agents for live production environments in partnership with the BBC, Google and Cuez.
Before transitioning into technology leadership, Jon built a distinguished career in live production. He first joined ITN as a trainee in 2000 and has held a range of senior roles including Technical Director, Programme Director, Head of Studio Technology and Head of Studio Operations. He is also a vastly experienced programme director, having led coverage of every General Election results programme since 2005, including the BAFTA-nominated 2017 and 2019 broadcasts, the Brexit referendum results special, the IAAF World Championships from Doha, and the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast.
